Due to extreme poverty, high unemployment, and gang violence, an unprecedented number of young people are leaving Haiti’s rural areas.

A few find employment in cities, but the vast majority end up in the urban slums, unemployed and facing violence, drugs, and prostitution. Others take the high risk of illegal emigration.

The cooperative structure and adoption of new technologies are attractive to the younger generation. We are implementing an outreach program to retain young people in the rural communities so they can help rebuild Haiti’s food production.
