In Marre-Roseau there is no source of water other than rainwater.

This makes everyday life challenging. Often, children as young as five years old are tasked with walking down to the ravine, collecting water, and then carrying it on their head or back for 6,000 feet. This journey can take between 3 to 4 hours, depending on the weather. Consequently, these children cannot attend school, a tragic outcome considering how crucially education contributes to escaping poverty.

CAMA and EWI began the process of installing rooftop rainwater collecting systems. Since most roofs in the area are in terrible condition, this project first replaces the existing roof and then installs the rainwater collecting system. These installations free children from their burden and enable them to attend school.

Each new roof and its rainwater harvesting system installed is one more child able to attend school and receive an education.
